This was a huge success! We cleaned up the 4 abandoned camps that were along the tree line, just North of East Pond. The City of Arcata provided a large dumpster and a city truck to help haul the garbage from the trail next to the abandoned camps to the dumpster, which was located close to Samoa BLVD. We filled the dumpster in 60 minutes! All our volunteers did an amazing job!

 

At the end of the cleanup we gave PacOut Green Team vests and badges to our volunteers that hit major cleanup milestones for 2020. We had people awarded for hitting 10, 25, 75 , and even 100 cleanups. For hitting these milestones volunteers are giving their own PacOut Green Team vest and patches signifying the cleanup milestones they’ve hit.  Congrats to all of our volunteers that received awards!  20 awards in all! See pictures below. 

Cleanup Details:

  • Volunteers: 39 
  • Weight:  2,600 lbs (estimate), 105 needles, 20+ bike frames, 20+ bike tires, 2 mattresses, 8 pallets, 1 pitch fork, hazardous materials and more! We filled the City of Arcata’s flatbed truck twice, plus other garbage that was hauled to the dumpster by our carts!
