8/26/17 POST CLEAN UP REPORT OF LAKE MENDOCINO POMO B SPONSORED BY SAVINGS BANK OF MENDOCINO COUNTY

WOW What a great feeling! We had 16 people make it out to this clean up and I have to say, it was the hardest one we’ve done yet. When finding trash is your biggest problem that’s a good day! We showed up to an already thoroughly beautiful Pomo B day use area and the hunt was on. We managed to gather 3 bags of trash and 2 tires with a total weight of 180 lbs. We were very pleased to see how clean it was already even through it made our job that much more difficult. I like to think that what we are doing is actually starting to make a difference, people are starting to take notice, people are starting to leave these areas as they find them, or better.

There was one consistent find though that we would like to do a little PSA for. The weather is hot, we are very happy to see that people are staying hydrated, they’re even throwing away their water bottles, but the caps, we must have cleaned up hundreds of just water bottle caps. What’s going on? How does this happen? So here’s our plea, lets do our best to not use disposable containers as often as possible. If more people used reusable containers it would be so much better for the environment, many of them are insulated and will keep a drink cold for a whole weekend.

Huge thank you to Savings Bank of Mendocino County! This was the last of three sponsored clean ups they had. If it wern’t for them we would not have had enough pickers to kick this thing off. They managed to get us 23 new pickers days before our first clean up.

Savings Bank of Mendocino County brought reusable water bottles for all to enjoy. Thank you!!

Why do we find underwear at every clean up? Seriously 3 pair! How does this even happen? Found 3 pair this day

Way to go Bonnie, digging through Poison Oak and Blackberry bushes to retrieve that tire! #thankstecnu

First time out for this guy! Looks like he had a great time, I hope we see him again!

One of our newest Pacific Outfitters employees, a true environmental steward, loves the outdoors, a perfect fit. This was her third cleanup!

I ran into this rockstar at Slam Dunk Pizza and told him what we were doing, he thought it was awesome that we were doing this and came to join the fun! Way to go Deven!

Alex ALWAYS has to find the largest piece of trash!

A clean and safe park ready for the kiddos!
