Picking up litter creates trash awareness, environmental stewardship, and ownership of our county. Picking up litter on a weekly basis creates a sense of community. With trash awareness, environmental stewardship, ownership of our county, and creating community, we can start making a positive change.

PacOut Green Team is a group of avid outdoors people in Humboldt County, CA that are passionate about keeping our outdoor spaces free of litter and debris. We call ourselves the “Home of the weekly 60-minute cleanup.” We understand that people have busy schedules. Hosting weekly 60-minute cleanups every Saturday between 9:00 am and 10:00 am allows people to still enjoy their weekend while keeping Humboldt County beautiful. Picking up litter is not something you do once or twice a year. It’s a way of life. By creating short and consistent cleanups, it’s allowed other people/organizations to embrace this way of life.

Our model is to keep our cleanups short (60 minutes) but consistent. Make the routine happen routinely. By doing this, environmental stewardship becomes a way of life.

Our weekly 60 minute cleanups have made huge positive impacts within Humboldt County. Even though we only clean up for 60 minutes at a time, it results to 20,000-40,000 lbs of trash removed from our open spaces each year. Because we host these cleanups every week, we’ve had 100’s of volunteers show up each year. Some people show up for one cleanup, some people show up regularly. Either way, we really appreciate the help. In addition to picking up trash, we take the time, each week, to educate our volunteers about the trash we find and what impacts it has on our community, resulting in trash awareness.
