7/19/25 – Post Cleanup Report – ARCATA – Mad River Beach
🔥 Mad River Beach Cleanup Report 🔥
Today we removed over 50 lbs of rusty nails (a full 5-gallon bucket!) from fire pits at Mad River Beach. Many of these came from burned pallets. On average, a single pallet contains about 80 nails—so when several are burned, hundreds of rusty nails are left just under the sand, waiting for someone—or a four-legged friend—to step on. 🦶🐾
👉 Please remember to use driftwood for your bonfires instead of pallets. It keeps our beaches safer for everyone.
A huge thank you to the CCC crew and all of our amazing volunteers who made this cleanup possible. Mad River Beach is now a little safer to walk on thanks to your efforts! 💚
