1/3/26 – Post Cleanup Report – Herrick Park N Ride
🌊🧹 Herrick Park N Ride Cleanup Report – January 3, 2026 🧹🌊
This cleanup definitely put our dedication to the test! We dealt with huge gusts of wind and king tides that peaked right as we were wrapping up. The good news — it didn’t really start raining until the very end.
However, several sections of the trail were flooded over from the bay, with lots of standing water on both sides of the train tracks, making it difficult to round up trash. Huge shout-out to the dedicated Greenteamers who came prepared with tall rubber boots and tackled those hard-to-reach areas 👢💪
We absolutely had a dedicated group out there, and we truly appreciate everyone who showed up despite the challenging conditions. And honestly — it was pretty amazing to see the king tides so high 🌊
One serious issue we continue to see: we picked up close to 10 Walmart shopping carts along the trails, with many more scattered in areas we couldn’t safely reach. Businesses need to do a better job managing their carts. If it’s too difficult to track them, then policies need to change — even if that’s inconvenient. These carts are becoming a major eyesore, often left along the waterfront trail and used as trailers or burn pits.
Thank you again to everyone who showed up and made a difference for our community and our environment 💚
