7/29/17 Post Clean Up Report Shakota Trail South sponsored by Savings Bank of Mendocino County
Well not bad! Out second clean up ever and we had 27 people show up! Big thanks to Savings Bank of Mendocino County for sponsoring this event and joining us to make a difference!
Looks like we’re still working through some learning curves, some people had trouble figuring out where to go. Just a heads up if you click the link for directions it will take you to a google map with a “pin” on exactly where to meet.

This clean up was a lot of fun! We managed to pull together a total of 12 full contractor bags weighing just over 300 lbs not to mention the countless beer and liquor bottles that were merely just tossed aside. Alex found a sweet bike partially submerged off the trail, I think he won the most unique find of the day! Bonnie found a dump that was about a weeks worth of local household trash unless they decided to bring all their mail to the lake while they changed a ton of diapers.
This kind of thing bugs me to find, however, what we are doing is changing awareness. This is not something that is going to happen overnight, but I believe that people will start to see areas that previously looked neglected that now look well kept. People will be much less inclined to illegally dump somewhere clean where their trash will be so noticeable vs. an over looked over grown already messy place. Another great tool to spread awareness is to share these posts with friends and family. When they see a community pulling together and being a part of the solution and making such a positive difference they too will catch the bug!
It was really great to see so many returning faces as well as eager new ones! Just a heads up, all of our clean ups are booked out for the rest of the year. The clean ups are every other week so check it out and see what clean ups fit your schedule.
