6/29/24 – Post Cleanup Report – McKinleyville 90 Minute Trash Bash
On a lovely Saturday morning, volunteers gathered for a cleanup. The turnout was a bit low, typical for the beginning of summer, but fortunately, there was less trash to deal with that day – a welcome change. Despite this, there are still many “Free” piles scattered around McKinleyville. It’s crucial to remember that items left in these piles are exposed to the elements and often degrade, becoming unsightly. Additionally, homeless individuals may rummage through them, prompting us to clear them from sensitive outdoor areas. It’s essential to educate your community about the negative impact of “Free Piles” on the environment, as it can be seen as littering. Interestingly, most of the discarded items originated from the housed community.
Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, we were able to fill up the dumpster and make a significant impact. If you’re interested in supporting our weekly cleanups, please consider donating raffle prizes such as gift cards or items with a value of around $10-$20.
