10/16/18 Post Cleanup Report Samoa Beach Bay St
PacOut Green Team was back out at Samoa Beach Bay St. area for another cleanup with AEGIS Treatment Centers-Eureka, CA and St. Joseph Health Humboldt County sponsoring the event. 15 awesome volunteers came out to help and recovered an estimated 200 lb. of trash from the dunes, beach, roadsides and parking area. This week’s haul included the usual single use packaging, cigarette butts, bottles, cans, and an unopened safe, which turned out to be empty. This area was cleaned thoroughly about a month ago on California Coastal Cleanup Day 2018 so it’s a bit concerning to find this much trash this soon after such a big event. What’s even sadder is that 90 % of the trash recovered came from careless littering from beach goers, not from abandoned or active homeless camps. We can do better than this Humboldt!
Big thanks to AEGIS Treatment Centers-Eureka, CA and St. Joseph Health Humboldt County for sponsoring and to all who came out to pitch in!
Next week’s event is Vigo St. Eureka Trash Bash.
