3/11/23 – Post Cleanup Report – HWY 255 – Adopt A Highway

Cleanup Details: We had a fantastic turnout for our Adopt-A-Highway cleanup! This is a VERY important cleanup for us because the trash can get so bad in each section of islands and the trash is so close to the bay. Once it hits the bay, the tide will drag it out to the ocean and then it’s gone for good. With 27 volunteers, we were able to pick up just over 700 lbs of trash in 60 minutes. That’s right, 700 lbs of trash scattered along the roads about to be in the bay. Based on what we picked up, it looks like lots of people toss out their single use packaging from fast food and single use coffee cups. Please keep a small garbage container in your vehicle for this stuff and use reusable containers where possible.

  • Volunteers: 27
  • Weight: 700 lbs (estimated weight) – Lots of cigarette butts, single use”to-go” containers, plastic debris, styrofoam, light fixtures, and more!
