4/22/23 – Post Cleanup Report – Eureka Waterfront Trail – Walmart Parking Lot
This cleanup had an amazing turnout. We had 37 people and a lot of first timers! This cleanup was also sponsored by Greenox and Humboldt Homegrown. They provided all the raffle items for the volunteers.
There are some HUGE homeless encampments in this area. One of the locations someone dragged an entire parking lot shopping cart holding stations 200 yards into the woods and set up a shelter around it.
DHHS joined us again and we passed out around a dozen pair of socks for our “Socks for Trash” campaign. Every bag a homeless person fills, during our cleanup, we will give them a new pair of socks. NO LIMITS. We also were able to get a couple members of the homeless community Tetanus shots through DHHS.
After 60 minutes we filled our dumpster. When the cleanup was over we used our PacOut Green Team Rhino Trash Hauler w/ Trailer to help remove pampas grass for the Trail Stewards group that was out there too. That stuff if terrible. It’s non-native and grows like crazy out there. We hauled out three loads of it and put it in their dumpster.
Thank you to all the volunteers that showed up, and don’t forget to support the people, organizations and businesses that protect our beautiful open spaces!
