8/19/23 – Post Cleanup Report – McKinleyville 90 Minute Trash Bash

Making a Difference One “Free” Pile at a Time!

Despite a smaller turnout, volunteers from all over came together to help make a difference in our town. Our focus was on the “Free” piles that often end up abandoned on the side of the road. Rather than leaving them to pollute our waterways and forests, we urge people to either donate their unwanted items or dispose of them properly.

We concentrated our efforts on various areas including Murray Rd, Hiller Rd, Central, and the wooded areas on both sides of Northwoods Mobile Home Park. These sites are often filled with garbage, with an estimated 20,000 lbs of trash on the North side and 10,000 lbs on the South side. We were pleased to see that John Shelter and his crew at New Directions were hired to clean up the North side, but we hope that they will also be hired to maintain the area to prevent it from becoming a mess again.

Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, we were able to fill up the dumpster and make a significant impact. If you’re interested in supporting our weekly cleanups, please consider donating raffle prizes such as gift cards or items with a value of around $10-$20.
