Successful Cleanup Efforts and Outreach with PacOut Green Team

The turnout for our recent cleanup event was phenomenal. Nearly 40 individuals participated, with groups heading in both directions on the Eureka Waterfront Trail. Given the active homeless camps along this portion of the trail, we dispatched our PacOut Green Team homeless outreach team to interact with these individuals, distribute garbage bags, and inform them about our “Socks for Trash” initiative. For each bag of trash filled, we offered a pair of new socks with no limits. Many of the homeless individuals began collecting the trash around their camps immediately and by the cleanup’s end, they had filled 25 bags of trash, receiving 25 pairs of socks in return.

Despite the swampy conditions caused by recent rains, our team of volunteers did an exceptional job. They discovered a large amount of trash just off the trail and managed to fill half of our massive dumpster within the 60-minute time limit. This equated to a couple of thousand pounds of garbage!

One of our dedicated volunteers, Tori, earned her 10 Cleanup Vest & Patch. If you attend ten cleanups, you will receive your PacOut Green Team Vest with a “10 Cleanup” patch. From there, you can earn 25, 50, 75, and 100 cleanup patches. If you complete 150 cleanups, you’ll even be inducted into the PacOut Green Team “Hall of Fame” and receive a “POGT Hall of Fame” patch. We are proud to share that we currently have ten individuals in our Hall of Fame, with the youngest member being just 12 years old.
