Cleanup Details: This was a HUGE cleanup. This greenbelt behind the Humboldt County Office of Education building has been on our radar for a long time and Saturday was our first attempt to restore the greenbelt back to its natural habitat. We teamed up with John Shelter and his team at The People of New Directions, Eureka Police Department, and Humboldt County Office of Education. We had a 20 yard dumpster and we overfilled it! We also picked up 486 syringes! Our volunteers kicked major butt Saturday. Please note, this greenbelt was a HUGE mess. Not all PacOut Green Team cleanups are this bad. Also during out cleanup someone started a forest fire 30′ from where we were cleaning up. Fire Department was called to put it out, but we kept working (safely) until we picked everything up in our direct area. We ended up finishing 10 minutes early! Only took us 80 minutes, instead of 90, to fill up a 20 yard dumpster! Great job everyone! We will be back to this place in a few weeks to focus on the Myrtle side of this greenbelt.
