4/19/24 – Post Cleanup Report – Hikshari Trail – Hilfiker Ln.
We had another fantastic turnout of volunteers! This section of the trail has faced significant challenges over the past year, particularly with camps and needles. A month or two ago, with the support of the City of Eureka and CSET, we made substantial progress in addressing the litter and needle situation. During this recent cleanup, we once again made a considerable impact on the amount of trash and needle litter present, thanks to the assistance from the City of Eureka and CSET. We filled nearly four one-gallon needle containers, which amounts to over 600 needles. Now, this portion of the trail, recognized as one of the most beautiful areas of the Waterfront Trail, looks much improved! A special thank you to Eureka City Council member Mario Fernandez for joining us and witnessing firsthand the work we do and the extent of the trash and needles along the Eureka Waterfront Trail. We are also deeply grateful to all the incredible volunteers who participated!
We also discovered evidence of syringes being dropped off in bulk and left unattended along the waterfront trail, with no syringe waste containers.
We are always grateful for the donations we receive to support our cleanup efforts. We welcome raffle items for our volunteers and donations towards our cleanup fund.
